Transform your agricultural roofs into an immediate source of profit.

Your large farm infrastructures, like your barns and poultry barns, have a hidden potential : their roofs.

Turn your buildings into powerful profit centers by installing agricultural solar panels. Thanks to our extensive experience in farm electricity, we’ve developed a solar energy solution built for the unique conditions of Quebec farms. Cut your energy bills drastically with the Hydro-Québec grant, and turn a variable operating cost into a predictable financial asset for the next 30 years.

An untapped potential

Why is solar energy ideal for the agricultural sector?

Farms have the ideal infrastructure for solar power production. By turning your sheet metal roofs into profit generators, you lock in your operating costs against rising electricity rates.

Maximum, unobstructed surfaces

The metal roofs of agricultural buildings offer the ideal space to capture maximum sunlight without shading.

An ideal roof lifespan for solar

The lifespan of a metal roof is approximately 50 years. It aligns perfectly with the useful life of your solar panels (25 to 30 years), preventing you from having to dismantle the installation to replace the roof along the way.

Surprising power

A single 100 m² roof surface can generate between 12,000 and 18,000 kWh per year, which is more than enough power to run several of your agricultural systems.

Grants & Subsidies

Benefit from Hydro-Québec incentives and a federal tax credit.

Switching to solar energy is now more accessible and profitable than ever. Thanks to the subsidy offered by Hydro-Québec, you could see up to 40% of the acquisition and installation costs of your solar panels covered.

The Government of Canada has also introduced a refundable Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit of up to 30% of the cost.

These major financial incentives significantly reduce your investment’s payback period—turning it into a true strategic advantage to protect yourself against future electricity rate hikes.

At Entreprise électrique MJL, our team supports you from A to Z to maximize these grants and bring your energy independence project to life with total peace of mind.

FAQ

Understanding your investment

How does billing work with Hydro-Québec if I produce more electricity than my farm consumes?

Through Hydro-Québec’s net metering program, any surplus energy generated during the day is sent straight back to the grid, earning you credits. You then draw on these credits when your system isn’t producing energy (at night or in the winter). At year-end, you are only billed for the net difference. Best of all, the MJL team takes care of the entire application and administrative process for you.

Stewardship of the land to pass down a healthy, productive farm to the next generation is core to the farming way of life. Solar power is the natural next step, enabling you to produce local, renewable energy on your existing roofs without sacrificing a single square meter of cultivable land. Offsetting 1,500 tons of CO² over 25 years—equivalent to planting 6,700 trees—means you are actively protecting the very ecosystem your business relies on.

Our team utilizes heavy-duty industrial components engineered for Quebec weather conditions, including 600 W panels, UV-rated wiring, and watertight connectors, all installed at an optimal 30° to 35° incline. Most importantly, to combat the extreme summer heat common to metal roofs, we strictly enforce a 25 cm clearance under the panels. This design ensures efficient natural airflow, greatly reducing any drops in power output.

The safety of your facilities and personnel is our top priority. For this reason, MJL requires a Rapid Shutdown system on every installation. During an emergency, this device de-energizes the high-voltage lines on the roof within 30 seconds, providing crucial protection for firefighters against electrical shock risks.

Absolutely. Knowing that indoor space is often limited on farms, MJL designed the ‘Custom Distribution Panel’. This all-in-one enclosure groups all key components (inverter, circuit breakers, etc.) and is specifically designed for outdoor installation. Weatherproof and rodent-resistant, this factory-preassembled system is ‘plug-and-play’, which reduces installation time and minimizes disruptions to your daily operations.
